James Hughes

James Hughes 1957 de Ballymena'da (Kuzey İrlanda) doğdu. Küçük yaşta ailesiyle beraber Avusturalya'ya göç etti. Ancak 1968 de, Kuzey İrlanda'nın en sancılı günlerinde, tekrar ülkesine döndü. Hayata makina mühendisi olarak atıldı. Ancak, yıllar önce Kodak şirketinde çalışan annesinin ona yapmış olduğu kutu fotoğraf makinası, 1980'lerden itibaren onu asıl mesleği fotoğrafçılığa yöneltti. Görsel sanatlar ve yirminci yüzyıl edebiyatından etkilendi. Modern dünya görüşüne karşın, daima gelenekselle ilgilendi. 2002 de (Sanat ve Tasarım) lisans eğitimini, 2005 de Ulster (Belfast) Üniversitesinden yüksek lisans ve 2010 da, ‘Kuzey İrlanda'ya Özgü Mekan Duygusu Fotoğrafsal Olarak Tanımlanabilir mi?’ konulu teziyle doktorasını tamamladı.
